COLLEGE DIARIES

         EPISODE:74

...The unnecessary drama didn't stop in the morning, it started again in the evening when I was sitting in my room and trying to complete one of my pending assignments. Grandma had told me to not 'back answer' her but what does one do when even answering is titled as 'back answering'?! It was around seven pm when mom came into my room, stood in front of the mirror, and started braiding her very much dyed hair. I had preserved the box in which Ethan had gifted me the necklace as it was a lovely rose-gold box with little pastel-colored floral patterns all over it. It also had a name tag over it which read, 'from Ethan, Happy Birthday!'.I always kept that box along with the necklace in it on my dressing table, in front of the mirror. Unfortunately, she saw the box with 'Ethan's' name and she picked it up. Though I pretended to be busy completing my assignment, out of the corner of my eye, I was observing her. Her eyes narrowed when she saw his name.

"What rubbish is this?"

"It's not rubbish.", I answered.

"I see the name on it!", she said, her voice louder.

"Me too!", I answered sarcastically. She took a deep breath and said,

"What is this, Daisy?"

"Mom! It's a birthday present from Ethan which he gave me for my birthday."

"And you accepted it?"

"Of course", I said. She picked up the box, went toward the window, and threw it out without any thought. Now, that was nonsense. I got up from my desk and rushed toward the window.

"Mom! What have you done?!!! Are you out of your mind?", I shouted. She folded her hands and said,

"Just what I should have done!".I gave her the most annoyed look I could and hurried downstairs in the backyard. Fortunately, it was in our backyard, not on the road. I opened up the box to see the necklace with the 'Dai' and the 'sy' broken apart.

"Oh no!", I cried. I loved that necklace more than anything. It was pretty, pretty, extremely pretty and she had broken it without any thought. The same night, at dinner time, mom said,

"And listen, Daisy, you have college tomorrow so I told Audrey's son to meet you on Saturday".I started to open my mouth to argue but then saw grandma looking towards me with a finger on her lips. That made me shut up.

                                                        ***********************

She had slapped me, no problem but then she had hit me so hard that it created a mark, a scar near my ear which was a big concern for me when I woke up the next morning to go to college. I took a loose strand of my hair and took it in front of my face, just to cover up the scar. It would have only made other people more concerned as I never do that hairstyle and it looked weird. So, I tied my hair back in a ponytail, took a deep breath, and went to college. Sophie was the first person to notice,

"Daisy?! What happened?!", she said, touching the scar.

"Nothing. Don't be worried."

"Why not? Tell me what happened at once!", she asked again but I quickly changed the topic to the assignment project that was given to us, and guess what? It worked! The only person with whom my lies and my 'topic-changing game' was not going to work was Ethan and I knew it.
