Dreamful
DREAMFUL
CHAPTER:28
"I am so, super bored!", Destiny said, taking a sip of her coffee that evening when she heard a loud thud of something from Grace's room, she was unhappy, that was sure, on the phone- with somebody. Mrs. Decker tried to cover that up by asking Dez something her mind didn't register.
"Destiny?"
'Mom, what's wrong with Grace...last three days, she's been acting weird, and she won't tell me what's going on, don't I need to know?"
"It's about Oliver", her mom replied, her eyes still on the magazine she was reading. Oliver was Grace's fiancé for the last three years and though Destiny hadn't known him so much, he seemed to be a nice guy, Grace always proudly beamed her engagement ring.
"What is it even about? Are you supposed to fight like that with-", Dez started...
"He says his family needs to 'fix' the date as soon as possible! And I've told him a thousand times that I CAN NOT GET MARRIED UNLESS MY SISTER ACCOMPLISHES HER GOALS! She needs support, mom! How is that possible if I just pack my bags and go away?!", Grace was shouting, clearly to herself. Her hair was the same as Destiny's, an inch shorter and she had facial features similar to her mom while Dez was more of her dad.
"You know Grace you don't need-", Destiny's voice sounded so low compared to Grace's shouting that day. She pulled her jacket off the door hook, almost ripped it, took her sling purse, and threw the device on which she was shouting minutes ago inside.
"I'll be back in an hour or so.", she said and stormed out of their Amsterdam apartment.
"I hate it, mom, why can't she marry, I don't want to be the reason she'll have to wait!"
"She's not ready just yet.", Mrs. Decker replied. Grace was 25. She was a happily graduated girl out of college and had an accountancy job(though she had aspired to become a plane pilot, but they couldn't afford the fee), Destiny had never seen her sad and she didn't want herself to be the reason for someone else's sadness. Destiny was lost in these thoughts when Mrs. Decker said,
" Ohhh, I Almont forgot to tell you! Edwin visited the bakery today!". Destiny abruptly stopped sipping her coffee.
"Why?". Mrs. Decker ignored Destiny's W-h question and continued,
"I told him a hello and introduced myself". Destiny almost choked the coffee, she coughed so hard which was followed by a series of coughs, unintentional, of course.
"Are you okay, Dez? I thought you'd be happy? Don't want to let him know about your old mom or...that she works in a bakery...?", she continued, her voice trailing off toward the last sentence, now the magazine was closed in her hands. All the level of storytelling excitement had hit the ground with the loudest thump. Mrs. Decker couldn't be considered 'old', though her black hair was turning grey, with each passing day, her heart was full of life.
"NO MOM! ABSOLUTELY NOT!"....., "It's just that..."
"What is it?"
"It's just that he'd think I'm obsessing over him so much at home that even my mom recognized him!"
"Silly, silly girl.", Mrs. Decker said, laughing.
"Why was he there by the way?"
"He got ten croissants and also asked me to tell you a 'hello'!". 'Ten croissants? For one single person? How can a person possibly look so amazing, so fit and fine, so all built up by not doing gym for one week and eating ten croissants for breakfast?'
"Okay, was he alone?", Destiny asked, and almost wanted to kick herself for asking that. What kind of a question was that?
"Yes, of course, Dez, now...you're obsessing over him.", she said, opening her magazine.
"Those are just general questions, mom!", Dez protested back.
"General questions, sure.", her mom said, hiding a laugh.
