DREAMFUL
CHAPTER:30
...When he was about to leave, it was Mrs. Decker who stopped him.
"Why don't you wait? Have some tea or coffee and then leave". Destiny thought he'd make some excuse and just leave but Edwin he was,
"If you say so.", he said, taking a seat at the nearest sofa, while Mrs. Decker went inside.
"I don't remember inviting you home.", she said, in a low voice, still standing.
"I cannot wait for that time, you know? I had reasons! By the way, Dez! Your voice is so good, mind if you sing that song again? For me?". She narrowed her eyes,
"Stop flirting with me in my own house, will you?". Turned out her mom had gone inside to call Grace. She took one look at him and turned pale. Family members can be embarrassing. Deathly embarrassing
"H-Hiii...! I'm Grace, Destiny's sister, nice meeting you.", she said, looking at him.
"Hello, Grace! I know, I know, she keeps mentioning you!", he replied with a smile. And Dez hated it because it sounded like she spoke to him a lot!
"Please sit you all, I'll get tea for you. Edwin? tea, coffee?", Mrs. Decker said.
"Tea will do, thank you!". Dez realized she was still standing, while Grace went ahead to take a seat on the opposite sofa, giving her a come-sit-here-or-I'll-kill-you look. Edwin had made her feel like a guest in her own house. His hair also looked different from two weeks before. They were grown but not shabby, no efforts to even comb his hair and he still managed to be a heart-throb. Destiny continued to take a seat beside her sister. This set-up was starting to feel weirder and weirder, second by second.
"This...is you Dez?", Edwin asked, pointing to a picture frame in which Dez was about 4 years old, cuddled up in her father's hand, her father in his captain merchant navy uniform, smiling at the camera. background- the port.
Destiny nodded her head and smiled, "That's me, and that's my dad.", she said.
"You both look the same!", he said and then continued about some story where he went for a cruise ride. There was a bell at the door at about 5:35. Ivanna Nooks entered and couldn't enter, looking at Edwin.
"Hi.", he was the first one to greet her.
"Hii", she managed to say somehow while giving Destiny a look that meant are-you-getting-married?!
"Come Ivy. This is Edwin, Destiny's interviewer, and...Edwin, this is Ivanna, Dez's best friend.", Grace said. It seemed as if Destiny had decided to take the vow of silence and become the mute monk till Edwin stepped out of her house, but in reality, there was just nothing coming out. It was all so sudden, so spontaneous, she just sat there, holding her teacup because she had forgotten to tell her mom to not prepare any tea for her as she had already been to the coffee shop and any more level of caffeine would be bad.
"Yes, I know her, she was there with Dez this one time.", he said.
Grace kicked Destiny's leg while Edwin was looking away in an attempt to say, "speak!!!", that was when her adorable mother came and took a seat, beside Ivanna.
"So, Edwin, when's the next level round of the pageant...there hasn't been any news on that?", Mrs. Decker said.
"Of that. We're sorry for the delay, our team is working on the mails, they'll be posted in a day or two". After some more chat, with mostly Edwin speaking to her mom and sister, he said,
"Cool time here, Thank you for the tea Mrs. Decker, got to be going, bye!"
"Anytime and Edwin, I'll let you know when the special bread arrive". With that, he was gone. 'What special bread is that?', Destiny thought
"Huhhhhh!", she said, heaving a sigh of relief.
"You seem to be acting weird in front of him...,mom, I was prompting her to speak but she stayed numb, I mean, duh?", Grace said, getting up from the sofa.
"It's not every day an interviewer enters your house out of nowhere, is it?", Destiny said.
"Okay, okay, okay guys, hold on. Can someone let me know why was he even here? And Dez? He called you DEZ!!!", Ivy said, putting one of her curls out of her face.
"Can YOU let me know why are you so late?", Dez said, playing with her bike keys, almost ignoring the second statement.
"I told you Dez, I'm extra-"
"Okay fine, whatever, he was here to return these, I forgot them while coming back home.", she said, hanging up the keys in the air.
"You should know we can't buy you a new bike again if...", Grace started but her voice trailed off.
"I know, that was just this one time. Anyway, you know what's the most embarrassing part of today?"
"What?", Grace and Ivy said in unison.
"I was singing 'perfect' with that comb in my hand-", she said, pointing to the comb "and he saw me like that because I thought it would be Ivy, and I don't mind Ivy seeing me singing or hearing me even but then there he was! Spontaneous!"
"Well, but he liked your singing, right?", Mrs. Decker asked.
"No way, what did you hear, mom!", she asked and everyone started laughing except Dez.
"It's not funny. I'm never singing while opening the door, ever again!"
