Dreamful
DREAMFUL
CHAPTER:33
...When Destiny woke up, she saw a gift box on her side table. It read,
'To Dez,
Rock that talent round of yours!
Grace.'
Inside of the box were the sandals Dez had added to the favorites list the other day, they were simply pretty, with no heels, no shimmer, no glitter. Simply pretty. Dez tried them on and they fit her perfectly. She went out of her room and found Mrs. Decker working in the kitchen.
" Where's Grace?"
"She's gone out to get groceries."
"Oh...she left me this gift, petty aren't they?"
"They sure are! Dez, have your breakfast and go get your dress for the talent round, don't wait till tomorrow, alterations won't be possible otherwise.", Mrs. Decker replied. The talent round for the pageant was scheduled for Saturday and Dez was going along with one of Edwins' ideas of reciting her poems.
" Mom...don't you think reciting a poem is stupid for a talent round ?", she asked, pulling a chair.
"Not at all, it's unique I think when everyone's going to sing or dance or act."
" But I still feel so crazy about doing this..."
" You know, Dez...you can never say. Sometimes even the craziest ideas work wonders, you just need to give it a shot!"
" Do you agree about it being crazy? Mom, it's for the-"
" Goodness, today's climate is soooooo hot, it's burning me!", Grace entered yelling, a bag full of groceries in her hand.
" Hey! Did you see your gift?!", she asked, eyeing Dez.
" I love the sandals Grace, thank you so much!"
" No worries, I love stalking through your 'favorites list.' ", she said smiling, going into the kitchen. After Dez was done with breakfast, she got ready and went for collecting her dress. It was a boutique called, ' Voila' and the dresses in there were heaven to look at it. Dez had rented a powder blue evening dress with a front knee slit, it was just the perfect fit for the talent round...not too glam, yet elegant. She tried it on and it fit her perfectly, which meant no alterations!
The next day when Dez was practicing her poetry, Grace entered and sat on her bed.
" How's it going?"
"Good? I don't know, I don't have anyone to judge except you and mom and Ivy and you all always say it's good."
" So it is!", she said throwing up her hands and Dez noticed something she couldn't quite believe. Grace's engagement ring! It was missing...
"Grace, your ring! Where's it?! Don't tell me you-", but Grace was already nodding.
" That's exactly what happened...", she said looking down, trying her best to appear careless but failing at it.
" No way! GRACE, GIVE ME YOUR PHONE, I NEED TO TELL THEM-"
" Chill, Dez, it's me who did it anyway...", she said getting up and walking toward the window, touching her empty ring finger.
"What? Why would you do that!"
" I...I wasn't able to...keep up...it was just not...", her voice trailed off filling up her eyes. Dez put an arm on her sister's shoulder.
" Grace, you loved him, you love him...why would you do that?"
" You don't understand, Dez... this mess has been going on for two weeks now...I have my work, my job I need to concentrate on! My job? It's where the money comes from, it's how our lives are running smoothly...my work reports this week were pathetic, let me tell you that...the client was very unhappy...they would have fired me, Dez...they gave me a verdict...", she said wiping away a tear and continued, " it was affecting my mental health...my work...my life! I...I just couldn't keep it up anymore...I called him today morning and gave him the ring back...that's something I don't need anymore. "
" But Grace, it's not about him! It's his family that's ruining this."
" I told him...if his family is so in a hurry to get us married because they have trust issues with me then they better find someone else and get him married tomorrow morning."
"Grace...you shouldn't have done this...".She shook her head, wiping away another tear.
" It's all for good,... trust me, and don't you think it's because of you...", she said and went out of the room.
" Mom, she broke up with him, I never thought that was even possible, Oliver and Grace were the ideal couple image I had in my mind forever...", Dez said when Grace went out of the house to complete her chores.
"It was 'her' decision, Dez..."
" What kind of a decision is this? They were set, mom, it was realistic! They never fought, it was so perfect."
" You should go and practice for tomorrow, Dez.", she replied. Even Mrs. Decker was sad, she didn't behave this way when Jason broke up with Destiny but with Grace, everything about her relationship was so ideal until two weeks back, things started going out of the manner.
"Fine. I'll just go.", she said, getting up and going to her room. She called Ivy but she didn't pick up because she was in the middle of taking a class.
" It's all useless.", Dez said to herself, continuing her practice when her phone buzzed with a notification.
New message from Jasonn_k:
Hey, can we meet? I've got something to share
'Seriously? If I broke up with someone like this, I would have sunk through the floor at the mere idea of texting them.' Destiny opened his chat and started typing,
'Hi, I don't earn anything, I am penniless. 'she wrote. That's what mattered to him, right? Of how much she earned? She was about to hit 'SEND' when the idea of messaging him back felt weird.
"You've got extreme ego issues, Destiny, you won't text him back.", she said aloud and deleted the draft. That's what he deserved. She went back to his profile and scrolled through it. There were pictures of him with the new girl, new pictures uploaded and she couldn't help but think...think 'how can someone...', oh no, that question shouldn't ever come up with Jason, maybe he didn't belong in the category of 'someone's'...he was abruptly different.
'I survived an abruptly different person for two years straight.", she said aloud, shaking her head.
