Dreamful

DREAMFUL

   CHAPTER:31

...The next day, when Destiny woke up to get ready for the gym, she checked her laptop for emails, specifical emails from the pageant! There it was-

New mail from Miss. Photogenic.

Miss. Destiny Decker,

Hope you are doing well! We apologize for the slight delay in the process of events from our side, any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted. The next round for the shortlisting will be voting-generated wherein your fate belongs in the hands of the citizens! You will have to stage-perform any of your talents(other than fashion-related examples: ramp walk, styling), which will then be broadcasted on our official website. Citizens of the Netherlands only can vote as this is a national-level beauty pageant. The voting poll will be strictly anonymous to ensure fair judgment. The details of the same will be posted shortly

Here, your talent plays more important than how high your stilettos are! We are eager to see what you've got! Good Luck.

  Regards,

                                                                      Andy Williams,

                                                                       Ryan Fletcher,

                                                                       Edwin Floyd.

Destiny shut her laptop and kept it on the side table...'talent? seriously? What am I supposed to do? Dance?' She tied her hair in a ponytail and went to the gym. She saw Stephanie right away, sitting on the gym steps, laptop in her lap, probably reading the pageant mail. When she caught her eye, she smiled, one of her evil-Stephanie-smiles at Destiny, and continued looking back at her laptop. Destiny entered the gym and dropped her bag in the corner. 'What do I perform on stage and not look dumb?'...she still couldn't get any ideas.

"Hi, Destiny. Morning! Only a couple more weeks left for me training you and then the pageant takes over your workout routine", Lucas said, handing her the skipping rope.

"That is if I ever get selected.", she replied, taking it.

"See, Dez, we hate negativity here. Good Morning! The gym is quite a productive place, isn't it?", Edwin said, coming out of nowhere. He had this habit of spontaneity, he would just say things, do things 'suddenly'.

"Not really for people who return after a two-week-long holiday.", she replied sarcastically looking at him.

"You are a model, I'm not, models have to workout regularly, without fail, eat healthily and whatever you know you're-"

"Stop giving me unwanted advice.", she said, rolling her eyes.

" Look! I got selected for this gig!", a voice exclaimed revealing Stephanie, she looked as happy as a five-year-old is at the sight of ice cream. She had her laptop in her hands and was showing it to Edwin.

" Congratulations Stephanie! What's it about?", he asked, getting up, and taking the laptop which was forcefully handed to him. Destiny said  Congrats which she pretended to not hear. RUDE.

" It's for the promotion of this luxury hair mask.", she said, glancing at Destiny, then quickly looking back at him.

" They said I fit perfectly, isn't that great?", she said, touching her messy braid.

"That sure is! Good luck, I know you'll rock it!", he said, returning her the forcefully handed laptop. 'Fashion gig? That is a job? Like a part-time job! DAMN...why do I not know about this...that it is possible-"

" Destiny? That's enough distraction? I think you should start the workout.", Lucas said, interrupting her thoughts and pointing at the skipping rope, still in her hands. Distraction? Correct.

"R...right..", she said, continuing her routine. When she was on the steps for the break, Edwin appeared again and sat one step above her.

"Hey."

"You never told me you get gigs, part-time."

"You never asked."

"I never knew!"

"What do you want? A part-time job? I'll find you one but not now. Now, you will focus on the talent round.

"Thanks for reminding me ", she said sarcastically, "I practically don't even know what to perform up there for the whole world to watch", she said, playing with the cap of her water bottle, shutting the cap, then opening it, then trying to completely remove the cap off the base it was stuck to. Edwin snatched it from her hands and shut the cap,

" That's enough abuse this water bottle went through. Now, Dez, you can sing well, right? I know you can so how about you sing-"

"No, no, no, no...I can't sing well."

"Destiny...I was a witness!". She shook her head, slightly embarrassed by the previous days' episode,

"Suggest me something else."

"mmm...you can recite one of your poems...the one you wrote about...what was it...if the butterfly lost wings...?".Destiny looked at him sternly, reminding the time he had read her poem diary.

"Sorry, that's the only one I read", he said. Destiny imagined herself...up on the stage...reciting one of her poems, looking dumb-like a kindergarten kid reciting twinkle-twinkle.

"That's...no...I can't do it!"

"There are a lot of options!", he said, throwing his hands in the air, "you can dance, act, stand-up comedy, sing, play a musical instrument, play volleyball...-no, not that, I mean you just need to see what fits best."

"Okay, Thank you, I'll think about it."

"That didn't seem like a genuine thank you...oh, yesterday's thank you as well! Not at all genuine!", he said, making a face. She smiled,

"What is a genuine thank you? How do you know?"

"Like, today morning you congratulated Stephanie, that was so fake-"

"I wasn't even a part of that conversation and-"

"You know what makes it genuine?"

"What?", she asked.

"When a person can just look in your eyes and know.", he replied.
