 CHAPTER:38

..."Destiny!", Mrs. Decker hugged her as soon as she entered the door. 'Honestly...mom, Grace? It's 1:00 a.m....aren't you sleepy?'

"You don't know how tensed you got us, Dez! All thanks to Edwin, he brought you home safely", Grace said, coming forward.

"Not like I was on a battlefield, Grace, I was safe.", Dez replied, rolling her eyes.

"Don't listen to her, mom. I've been there and those roads of Avenue 9 are terribly quiet and lonely at night and trust me they are damn creepy!", Grace said.

"I know...I've heard its countryside. It was very sweet of him to help you out."

"So what was it? How did you miss the bus? And why did you not change back?", Grace interviewed. Destiny quickly summarized the day for them, she was planning on doing that the next day when she woke up fresh but they weren't going to let her sleep until she spoke to them about the day. Destiny opened her phone(finally). Indeed there were a lot of notifications. Calls from Mom, Grace, Edwin, and even Ivanna. But what she couldn't stop wondering was, that Edwin had placed a call at 10:45 p.m., which was way before her mother, sister, or Ivy for that matter had.

                                           *************************

Ivy had finally carved out time to meet Destiny after one week. It was Sunday and she came soon after breakfast to spend some quality time with her best friend. Destiny was story-telling Ivy all about the previous day's events when her phone kept on the table buzzed with a new notification. She picked it up and saw a new message, from Edwin:

You aren't true to your word, Dez! The gym and its people missed you today:(

"Why are you smiling like that?", Ivy questioned attempting a peek when Destiny pushed her away with a laugh but she still managed to get a sight of the contact name.

"Ohhhhhh! Edwin?! You guys! I really have a lot to catch up on, don't I? Actually, I'd be upset if I didn't!". So Destiny filled her with the previous day's events in detail. Ivy had a smile put on her face when she heard her best friend.

"What? Stop looking at me with that smile!", Destiny said, looking away, unable to hide her own when her phone buzzed again, this time it was kept on the table, a little away from her so even Ivy could get a good sight of it.

EDWIN:

Busy, miss model?

"Don't leave that poor guy on seen, Dez, he's waiting for an answer!", Ivy teased while Destiny rolled her eyes as she picked up the phone to type a reply.

"So you coming with me today to the fair Ivy I-"

"No, I'm not...-"

"YOU ARE COMING WITH ME!"

"Dez...the rides and I? We aren't best friends, right?", Ivy said referring to her fear of giant fair rides, she always felt nauseous and unwell after riding in one.

"Grace is coming as well and Ivy, honestly? Can't we do other stuff than rides? There are games, there's food, there's music, there's everything!!!"

"Alright, okay okay! Deal! I'm coming!", Ivy said and Dez couldn't help hugging her.

Destiny opened her wardrobe as she pulled out a dark blue distressed denim and a black crop top with graphics on the front. She middle-parted her hair and pulled them in a knot, accessorized with some medium-sized diamond earrings, and went ahead doing her makeup. She pulled out her red lipstick and black eyeshadow, mascara, and eyeliner...A Smokey eye look was the plan for that night. She grabbed the black tote that hung on her bedroom door and looked at her reflection in the mirror.

" This is the look I wanted!", she said, swirling around when Grace entered her room.

"Hey, Dez, which one should I wear?". What was wrong with her? Here Dez was all ready to step out and her sister was still deciding on what to wear. Dez resisted the urge to yell at Grace and instead gave her opinion. She was quick to get ready unlike Dez who had to focus on minute details from head to toe about completing her look, what complimented her best and what didn't, which new hairstyle should she go for, and all the fashion craze she had.

"Let's go?"

"Let's go!", Grace said closing the door behind them. Ivy was supposed to meet them at the gates of the fair, when the sisters arrived, she was already there, waiting for them,

"You look perfectly charming, Dez!!! What's the whole black look for?", Ivy questioned as they made their way toward the ticket counter.

"I wanted to experiment...that's it.", she answered gazing around. It was only 10 p.m. and people had already started making their way inside. There were families with infants who wouldn't stop crying, there were couples, teenagers in a group even old-aged people in wheelchairs who had come to enjoy the fair. Dez could already hear the music that was being played, it was one of her favorite beats. Her eyes moved around to find three people who were already looking at her in admiration and talking among themselves. One girl and two boys-they were standing at a distance, tickets already in their hands and they appeared to be talking about Destiny.

"What's wrong Destiny?", Ivy asked, following her gaze.

"Huh? What? Nothing, the trio there appears to be talking about me, just makes me feel a little awkward.", Dez said, turning around to look at Ivy.

"Dez! Come on! You are a model and they would have probably seen you on the T.V. as well as in newspapers. They are probably just going crazy over spotting you!", Grace chimed in.

"Crazy over ME...right...", Dez said with a sarcastic laugh. They finally entered the fair and it was even more marvelous than the previous year.

"Let's go for the Ferris wheel!", Destiny said as soon as they spotted one. She was as excited as a five-year-old. She grabbed Ivy's hand just so that she wouldn't run away. But Ivy had a terrible look put on her face,

"Tsk. Ivy. It's just so small, look at it! We aren't going for the giant one!"

"But, Dez, you know my motion sickness...".Destiny rolled her eyes,

"Ivy I'm serious-"

"It's okay, Dez, don't force her, we can go and she can maybe enjoy some games here?", Grace said. Ivy looked happy as ever to Grace's rescue.

"Cool! That'd be great, I'll go play 'Cover the spot'", she said, pointing to a stall.

"Let's go then?"

"For sure!", Dez smiled as the sisters went their way toward the Ferris wheel. It was one of her favorite rides of the carnival. As the ride went up, Destiny looked around and saw everyone looking as tiny as ants. She looked up to find clusters of stars gazing back at her. She smiled as the whir of the cool winds touched her face. Ivy waved at her from below and she waved back. She heard people screaming when they were making their way toward the top but for Dez, she was never frightened of tall or giant rides...she enjoyed them the most.

"That was honestly wonderful!", she said when they were done with the ride.

"Cool! But sad luck for me! I didn't win the game.", Ivy said, making a face.

"It's okay, Ivy, there are like a ton of....wait...is...that...Edwin?!", Dez said, spotting a guy. He was at a distance and had his back toward her. She started walking toward him while Ivanna and Grace gave each other a hidden smile. When she was halfway there, he turned, revealing not Edwin but a middle-aged person who had the same physique. DAMN. Embarrassing. Destiny quickly changed her path, grateful to herself for not calling out his name when she had walked toward someone who wasn't him. Ivy and Grace belly-laughed when they saw Destiny's expression.

"Come on, I really thought it was him!", she said, not looking at both of them and walking ahead.

"Sure thing!", Ivy said, still laughing, falling on Grace's shoulder. 'Who's who's best friend? Duh,', Dez thought.

"Now, now. If you're done with your silly joke, shall we proceed? Let's go! There's this game I think I can win!".

"Look! There's Edwin!", Ivy said, after a while, after Dez was done playing 'Bottle stand' and 'Bingo' and also losing miserably in both. Destiny turned around to find the same person she had mistaken for Edwin.

"Prank!", Ivy said with a smile while Destiny just rolled her eyes.

"Are you expecting him here, Dez?"

"What? No, no! But he told me he would visit this week.", she was quick to answer. The girls went to some snack shops and grabbed popcorn, pretzels, Italian pasta, and ice creams.

"Models aren't supposed to eat junk.", Grace said, biting a pretzel, pointng toward the bowl of pasta in Destiny's hand.

"Okay then, don't consider me a model for tonight.", she answered, swallowing another bite of the delicious pasta.

Later Destiny was shooting a 360-degree video of the fair for her Instagram story when Grace said through gritted teeth,

"Dez! Edwin's approaching! For real!!".This time it was Destiny who laughed.

"Ever heard of the 'Boy who cried wolf' , dear sister? You can't fool me twice!"

"Dez. Dez, this time it's no joke!", Ivy whispered. Destiny rolled her eyes as she turned around slowly capturing the whole beauty of the place and she was about to press 'pause' when in her frame appeared Edwin. For real.
